Daddy the magazine, with its clever subtitle "Prime Beef, Aged to Perfection," appeared in late 1989 as a quarterly, digest-sized publication.
The magazine has consistently focused on the erotic appeal of the older man/father-figure and his relationship with a younger man through fiction, artwork, and photographs of models.
Before widespread Internet usage, the detailed personal ads, which often included photographs, were a significant feature. Issue number three contains this real "pip": "Daddy wants strong, heavyset Son, 220lbs.+ to play horse. Carry me piggyback, strongman stunts, work out, ride bikes, watch videos, swim etc. with me." Note the very specific fetish activities!
The magazine is also notable for a local Chicago connection: the first Daddy the magazine night was hosted at Carol's Speakeasy in Chicago, on December 19th, 1989. The first editor was known as The Rogue. A b/w format (both illustrations and photographs) was followed consistently in the print publication; a major illustrator was Bill Ward, who also did illustrations for Drummer. The models were generally not porn stars.
Their later submission guidelines for stories appear to have become more focused (or some might claim stringent), forbidding heavy S & M and "degradation" (earlier issues included more fetish and related BDSM activities) and irresponsible or psychologically unhealthy scenarios.
The magazine is now available on-line as Daddy Online Magazine (thougth I noticed the site has not been updated since 2009) and still retains its unique look; for those curious, see http://www.charm.net/~ganymede/HTML/Homepage.html.
In this age of greater appreciation for mature guys, a time when an age like 60 is not old, it's significant that this magazine is still going strong.
P.S. And enjoy the picture of Richard Locke, the ultimate porn star Daddy! Woof!
